When gifted kids consistently refuse to do work or follow the rules, the reason for the behavior may be different than expected. Research outside of the United States gives us insight into the reasons for repeated refusal and how to help these kids feel empowered enough to show us their strengths. Presenters provide strategies to help reduce these frustrating situations.
Learning Objectives:
Describe reasons for gifted children using defiant and difficult behaviors at home and in the classroom.
Define refusal behaviors through the lens of anxiety.
Demonstrate difference between demands and declarative language.
