The purpose of my study was to explore the perceptions of gifted teachers, gifted students of color, and their parents regarding online learning in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, this study examines some of the issues surrounding the online education of gifted and talented students of color in elementary schools.
Learning Objectives:
Most of the participants described closing schools during the 2019-2020 school year as a safe decision, while some thought closing schools was a big disruption.
Half of the participating teachers reported that online teaching was difficult for their students to learn. Teachers also described online teaching as difficult for them, though they still enjoyed teaching.
Some teachers thought online learning was beneficial for gifted students from all groups. Most teachers thought that the online environment was not a good match for gifted learners of color.
