“Evaluate the Possibilities” presents an integrated curriculum model for teaching evaluative thinking to gifted learners in the upper elementary grades. The presenters discuss specific thinking skills required to thinking evaluatively. Using this practical, research-based instructional method, participants learn to explicitly teach gifted students to engage in productive struggle with ambiguous problems where several answers could be considered correct.

Learning Objectives:

  • Interact with a practicable and research-based model for teaching evaluative thinking skills explicitly to gifted upper elementary students.
  • Understand the five facets of evaluative thinking and how to integrate these skills into their existing classroom instruction in systematic ways.
  • Connect evaluative thinking skills with existing standards through scaffolded lesson frameworks which include rich literature and opportunities for application.
