Journey back to the time of the world’s first computer programmer, Ada Lovelace, whose imagination produced a flying horse and a program that directs a machine to calculate numbers. This session features hands-on computer coding activities inspired by the biography “Ada’s Ideas.” Participants receive exciting, research-based activities that transform children into computer programmers, investigators, and historians.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain an understanding of how computer science (coding) activities can be used to develop talent in young, gifted students.
Participants will understand how computer science can be used to promote creativity, problem solving, innovation, decision making, communication, and critical thinking.
Participants will gain an understanding of how literature, including non-fiction texts, can be used as a platform to plan and implement computer science activities in elementary classrooms.
