This presentation discusses how a middle grades and secondary Gifted Academy compacts mathematics curriculum to allow for rapid acceleration through foundational mathematical content. Acceleration allows for earlier entry into AP Calculus and subsequent college level coursework in our school.
Learning Objectives:
Learn about the research-backed benefits of mathematics curriculum compacting and acceleration.
Identify strategies for compacting mathematics curriculum while providing enriching activities for students, meeting learning targets, and preparing students for subsequent math courses (eventually at the university level).
Learn about areas of concern with curriculum compacting and acceleration for students and ways to address these issues.
