Geek Culture x Writers’ Workshop = Awesome Learning! Looking for ways to increase student motivation and engagement for writing and connect with high potential writers especially from underserved populations? Whatever their fandom, this session offers mini-lessons, mentor texts, and modern twists on classic works for your learners to explore their own interests as well as develop their creative writing gifts.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will experience creating positive, collaborative, self-directed fanfiction writing communities of gifted writers.
  • Participants will learn to plan and implement differentiation strategies aligned with NAGC and NCTE standards for remixing classic texts through the fanfiction lens.
  • Participants will receive resource lists of fanfiction mentor texts and mini-lesson ideas for K-12 gifted students, highlighting those from underrepresented populations.
