Pride Goes Pop! How Pop Culture Teaches Gifted LGBTQ+ Identity and Community

Pop culture is everywhere, so it’s no wonder that gifted LGBTQ+ youth turn to this world to learn about their complex identities and find acceptance. Pop culture can provide a plethora of affirming messages and build community. Find out how classrooms and counseling can embrace and use pop culture to engage and teach gifted LGBTQ+ students identity and pride!

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will acquire an evidence-based understanding of the social-emotional needs of students who are gifted and LGBTQ+.
  • Participants will learn about a successful, evidence-based framework for using relevant social-emotional lessons based on student interests.
  • Participants will obtain applicable advice for replicating these social-emotional and responsive lessons.
