Gifted and Talented Teacher Silvermine Dual Language Magnet School, Connecticut
What can be done to address the underrepresentation of Multilingual Learners (MLs) in gifted programs? This session explores how talent development opportunities for early elementary students prior to formal identification has supported more equitable gifted identification. It also gives participants specific strategies to promote talent development for young MLs.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to identify causes of underrepresentation of MLs in gifted and talented programs.
Participants will be able to describe how early opportunities for talent development for MLs can be one factor in reducing disproportionality of this population in gifted programming.
Participants will be able to implement specific strategies to provide talent development to early elementary school students.
