Learning a new language has immediate and future cultural, social-emotional, and linguistic benefits for young children. The younger the children are when exposed to novel languages, the greater the benefits are for their development. In this session, we provide strategies and resources to participants, such as cultural games and songs, that promote Spanish-language exposure and acquisition in preschool students.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will gain an understanding of the evidence-based benefits of novel language acquisition in early childhood.
Participants will have an enhanced understanding of best practices for young children who are emerging bilingual or multilingual.
Participants will be able to implement activities that motivate young children in the acquisition of the Spanish language.
