Brain-based Strategies for Learning in PK-2 Using the Mindup Curriculum (Poster 9)

Brain-based learning strategies combine relevant research in neuroscience with engaging activities for gifted students. The MindUp Curriculum is a well-researched, evidence-based set of lessons based in brain-focused learning. It focuses on social-emotional awareness, enhancing psychological well-being, and promoting academic rigor and success.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the effects of using the MindUp curriculum on behavioral symptoms, adaptive skills, and executive functioning of PK-2 students at a Title I school.
  • Pinpoint the amygdala, the hippocampus, and the prefrontal cortex (PFC) on a diagram of the brain and explain the different functions of each part.
  • Identify and apply different brain-based teaching strategies that can deepen student learning, such as drawing relationships and elaborating concepts.
