In this session, we examine the continued relevance of Dabrowski’s Theory of Positive Disintegration and overexcitabilities in the field of gifted education. What myths and misunderstandings persist about overexcitability and giftedness? We explore at least five areas where common beliefs in the field don’t match up with Dabrowski’s own words or the theory’s empirical foundations.
Learning Objectives:
Gain a deeper and more accurate understanding of the origins of Dabrowski’s theory and work.
Define best practices for working with and studying overexcitabilities in the gifted.
Describe the appropriate application of overexcitabilities.
