Preparing Educators to Review and Improve Gifted Services: A Critical Best Practice

Effective program evaluations help identify priorities, select appropriate models and strategies, and create coalitions for change and continuous improvement. This session teaches participants about design principles for multi-faceted evaluations of local gifted services and strategies for engaging stakeholders in standards-based improvement. Success stories, cautionary tales, and common themes from recent reviews of urban, suburban, and rural districts are shared.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the purpose and benefits of program review.
  • Define evidence-based practices for conducting a program review as described in Standard 5 of the Pre-K – Grade 12 Gifted Programming Standards.
  • Be able to identify goals, engage stakeholders, and plan for a program review.
