Social-Emotional Development of Gifted LGBTQ Individuals: Retrospective Studies Part Two

Retrospective studies of psychologically traumatic life events help construct interventions for others (Bertsen & Rubin, 2002). This interactive session of the second year of a longitudinal retrospective investigation highlights the psychosocial development among gifted LGBTQs who came out after age 30. Examining their challenges and coping strategies serves as a foundation for work with today’s adolescents who are questioning.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will demonstrate through discussion that they understand the value and utility of retrospective studies involving social and emotional development.
  • Participants will describe how they can apply retrospective information to scaffold the development of questioning adolescents they teach.
