Lohren Carter-Nzoma is a Detroiter, life-long educator and lover of learning and leading..
She Is an Alum of Oakland University and Grand Valley State University. She currently holds the position of Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Student Education for Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD), the largest school district in the state of Michigan with approximately 8,000 students with identified exceptionalities and 114 schools. This includes running the Eastern Region of Wayne County Regional Education Agency’s (WRESA) moderate to severe needs center-based programs. Adding to her broad experiences in education, she worked as State Compliance Monitor in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Education. Ms. Nzoma worked as a central office administrator for one of the largest charter school organizations in Michigan with an extensive special education department spanning across 7+ states. Lohren Nzoma describes herself as “cultural ambassador” a mother, sister, Identical twin, and now, a “Mi-Mi” to her eldest daughter’s son! She understands that equity and inclusion is a right and vehemently uses her space and locus of control to give space and voice to others. As a “Leader of Leaders” she loves to watch others grow and develop. Currently her work has led to providing testimony for the Michigan K12 Housing Appropriations Committee in Lansing focused on equitably funding special education and providing legislation and funding for gifted education as a matter of equity.
She is an active member of the Council of Exceptional Children (CEC), Michigan Association of Administrators of Special Education (MAASE) as well as a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® in her local chapter.
