Mr. David Bailey became the proud principal of Bates Academy School for the Gifted and Talented in July 2018. David has been serving the children of Detroit as an educator for over twenty-seven years. His educational experiences have afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse group of people to meet the common goal of increasing student achievement and well-being. His educational philosophy is based on his uncompromising belief that all students can learn, given a positive learning environment, strong and knowledgeable leadership, a committed and focused academic team, an encouraging community, and a supportive family.
Mr. Bailey has organized many professional development opportunities for staff and has served on several curriculum development and strategic planning committees. He enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues to maximize learning opportunities for the students and families that he serves.
Mr. Bailey received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2004. After several years of teaching, he pursued his Master's in Elementary Education Administration, which he obtained in 2006.
He understands how important the school is in ensuring ALL children receive a quality education that will prepare them with the skills they need to succeed in a 21st-century society.
