Dr. Seward has a rich history in K-12 teaching and school counseling. With three degrees from Purdue University, she has served 6th-12th grade high-ability students in mixed-ability and self-contained classrooms, in individual and small group counseling, and in career advising for over 17 years. After earning her Ph.D. in 2017, she is living her dream of teaching teachers as a Clinical Associate Professor at Purdue. She also serves as Licensure/Certification Advisor for teachers, administrators, and advocates for gifted youth in Indiana, the U.S., and beyond and as Youth Program Director for Purdue's yearround academic enrichment camps for PreK-12th grade students. Kristen was also instrumental in implementing an undergraduate teacher licensure program at Purdue University so newly licensed teachers have the opportunity to add high-ability licensure upon graduation. She is currently serving on two federal grants that focus on alternative approaches for identifying talents and talent potential in underrepresented populations. Her research interests include online teaching and learning, undergraduate teacher education, professional development, curriculum development, K-12 academic and counseling program development, gifted education in rural settings, social-emotional characteristics and needs of students with high ability, career development, and gifted education pedagogy for all teachers and learners.
