High Ability Learning Specialist

Sheyanne S. Smith is the High Ability Learning Specialist for the Nebraska Department of Education. She completed her bachelors and master's degrees at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. She taught middle school gifted ELA, and she worked at Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth in their summer programs for gifted students in grades K-12. Sheyanne has been a panelist at conferences held by Vanderbilt Gifted Education Institute, as well as provided professional development to schools, districts, ESUs, parents, and gifted teachers across Nebraska and beyond. In addition to her work at the state, Sheyanne is an adjunct professor at Midland University and a student at University of Arkansas Little Rock pursing a second master's in Gifted and Talented Education. Sheyanne is a member of the National Association for Gifted Children, the Council for State Directors of Programs for the Gifted, CEC-TAG, and serves on the NeMTSS Statewide Collaborative Committee.
