Magdalena Fitzsimmons has worked as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, and gifted education resource teacher for Baltimore County Public Schools in Maryland for 23 years. She has presented at numerous national and state conferences on the topics of curriculum for gifted students, creativity, technology integration, arts integration, and problem-based learning. Ms. Fitzsimmons is a recipient of the Teacher as Leader Citation and Award from the Maryland State Advisory Council on Gifted and Talented Education, the National Music Foundation Lois Bailey Glenn Award for Teaching Excellence, a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Contributions to the Baltimore County Public Schools and is a three-time winner of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Ms. Fitzsimmons has also written and edited reading language arts curricula for gifted and talented students for Baltimore County Public Schools, the Maryland State Department of Education, and is the author of Challenging Common Core Language Arts Lessons: Activities and Extensions for Gifted and Advanced Learners in Grade 5, published by Prufrock Press. Additionally, she has presented workshops on language arts instructional strategies for gifted students as part of the Summer Institute at the Center for Gifted Education at the College of William and Mary. Ms. Fitzsimmons is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in instructional technology at Towson University and is hoping to begin her dissertation research in the spring of 2024.
