Telekia Grubbs-Williams is a 2nd year doctoral student and Graduate Teaching Assistant in the Department of Educational Psychology – Gifted and Creative Education at the University of Georgia. Prior to pursuing her doctoral studies, she received a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Dillard University, one master’s degree in Secondary Education and another in Gifted Education from William Carey University, and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Psychology – Gifted and Creative Education from the University of Georgia. In the Spring 2021, she was recognized as the Outstanding GCE Educational Specialist student. Before becoming a full-time doctoral student, Telekia spent 13 years in K-12 education where she served in different capacities as a substitute teacher, assistant testing coordinator, high school mathematics teacher and Collaborative Team Lead, and gifted educator. Her research interests focus on the underrepresentation of minority students in gifted education and advanced learner programs and the recruitment and retention of minority educators in gifted education. She is currently collaborating with other gifted educators and scholars on research projects that address issues involving equity and diversity in gifted education.
