Indigenous Students Leap Ahead (ISLA) Project, Massachusetts
Jerry Lassos is Tongva, the indigenous tribe of Los Angeles. He is an Air Force veteran. Lassos Educational Equity Consulting is honored to be contracted with the Mashpee Wampanoag Education Department. In Colorado Jerry was a teacher, Gifted and Talented Resource Consultant, and an American Indian Resource Specialist. He was a board chair for West Denver Prep Charter School which grew into STRIVE Prep Charter Network, 10 of Colorado’s top academic performing schools serving primarily Latino students. He attended the Teaching Tolerance Institute, co-sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Jerry is the Tongva representative for the Channel Islands National Park Service website dedicated to the book Island of the Blue Dolphins and recent archeological discoveries. Jerry is co-founder of Indigenous Students Leap Ahead! (ISLA) co-planning and co-teaching lessons research-based on American-Indian students’ strengths. With ISLA Jerry worked on the Wind River Reservation and is currently working with Kodiak Island Schools, Alaska.

I am a passionate advocate for educational equity. Co-Founder, Indigenous Students Leap Ahead! (ISLA) offers culturally responsive pedagogy through the Seven Instructional Hoops© a strength-based method with proven results of double-digit percentile academic growth. ISLA mentors, co-plans, and co-teaches with educators in urban, rural, and tribal settings.
Founding Board Member, former Chair, West Denver Prep Charter School subsequently becoming STRIVE Prep Charter Network with 10 schools and over 3,500 students; 97% are students of color (mostly Latino), 45% are English language learners, 53% are high poverty students. STRIVE Prep’s 2020 Impact Report data; 85% graduation rate, 90% go on to 4-year university, 72% go on to college.
