FACE Teacher
Mosinee Public Schools, Wisconsin
Susan Swinick is an educator in a rural high school in north central Wisconsin. She is .50 FTE as a Family and Consumer teacher and .50 FTE School to Work Coordinator. Her additional duties include being an advisor to the local chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), the career to school organization (CTSO) for the family and consumer sciences. A "late bloomer" in the education world, Mrs. Swinick held careers in the housing and fashion industry prior to a revelation at the age of 50 to gain licensure to teach in her original field of "Home Economics in Business." She currently maintains three cooperative work programs at Mosinee High School: Student Leader Mentorship, Youth Apprenticeship and Internship. Student Leader Mentorship allows students to act as tutors/leaders in district classrooms and offices as they work toward a Leadership Certificate issued by Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction. The Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program is a rigorous one- or two-year elective statewide workforce development program that combines academic and technical instruction with mentored, paid, on-the-job learning that makes a real world connection for students. Lastly, Internship is a cooperative work program which allows students to earn high school credit while learning employability skills on the job.
