Associate Professor of Gifted Education

Amy Graefe is an associate professor of gifted education at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC), where she teaches undergraduate courses in special education and graduate courses in special education and gifted education. She is also the director of UNC’s Gifted and Talented Center and the director of UNC’s Summer Enrichment Program, a nationally recognized summer program for gifted learners in grades pre-K-12 that focuses on the whole gifted child. In addition, she serves on the Gifted Education State Advisory Committee for the Colorado Department of Education. Her primary writing and research interests include secondary gifted education, creativity in the schools, appropriate academic and affective programming options for exceptional children, and recognizing and meeting the needs of underserved gifted and high-potential learners.
Prior to becoming a professor at UNC, she served for 22 years in various capacities as a teacher, library media specialist, instructional coach, and gifted education specialist. In these roles, she had the privilege of working with students and teachers in grades K-12 in richly diverse public schools.
