Brittany N. Anderson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Urban Education in Middle, Secondary, and K-12 Education (MDSK) at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Brittany is a former Texas elementary educator, who received her Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Baylor University, Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Texas, and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology, Gifted and Creative Education. Her research focuses on pre-service and in-service teacher development related to the talent development and identification of minoritized youth. Dr. Anderson’s research also centers the lived experiences of gifted Black girls and women, with an emphasis on their academic trajectory, programming, and social-emotional needs. Her grant work focuses on university-school-community partnerships to situate STEM engagement through critical and culturally relevant experiential learning development with high-ability Black girls, their teachers, and families. Through this work, she was recently named a 2022 National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER fellow. For the past several years, Dr. Anderson has been involved in the professional learning of in-service teachers in urban schools, focused on anti-racist and culturally responsive teaching, STEM, and gifted education. Dr. Anderson was the 2017 recipient of National Association of Gifted Children (NAGC) Doctoral Award, NAGC’s Special Populations 2022 Early Career Award, UGA's 2023 Mary Frances Early Alumni Early Career Researcher Award, and Charlotte Business Journal's 40 under 40 Award. She also serves on several university, local, and national committees aimed to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in K-12 settings.
