Engineering Teacher
Ideaventions Academy for Mathematics & Science, Virginia
In what I consider to be my fourth career change, I have found my calling. I have a passion for teaching students of all ages how to solve problems through the use of engineering, math, design, and art skills. It took me long enough to get here, but I am so glad that I wound up here. I love seeing a world open up when a student learns how to use a new tool or technique to complete a challenge that previously seemed to have no solution. Additionally, learning that they don't have to get it right the first time, but that they cannot give up either, is a new way of thinking that becomes instilled in their approaches.
I consider myself to be an engineering ambassador. I look for ways to help students find inroads to engineering, whether it be through sketching designs, calculating dimensions, building contraptions, or putting the final coat of paint onto a creation that really makes it pop. Everyone can play a part in the engineering design process -- they just need to be shown how.
A lifelong learner, I am thankful to be a part of this rewarding process.
