Manager, Gifted and Talented Department

Dr. Meryl Faulkner is the manager of the Gifted and Talented department in Denver Public Schools. She is passionate about dismantling systemic racism in Gifted education through restructuring systems and structures, creating and maintaining a continuum of services that is equitable ECE-12, providing professional development to teachers, supporting teachers and administrators with strategic planning of gifted programming at the school level, and developing acceleration procedures that are researched-based and put students first. She holds a doctorate from the University of Denver in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Gifted Education and has a Gifted and Talented Director district-level administrator’s license. Through her dissertation, she investigated the experience of the Gifted identification process for young, historically underrepresented students in Colorado. She is the NAGC Early Childhook Network Chair-Elect. In addition, she serves on the school board at Stargate School for Gifted Children and the Colorado Academy for Educators of the Gifted, Talented, and Creative.
