Dr. Elizabeth Fogarty has been an assistant professor of literacy in the Teacher Education Department at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota since 2020. She earned a PhD in Educational Psychology/Gifted Education and a focus in Literacy at the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Fogarty currently serves as the Past President of the Minnesota Educators of the Gifted and Talented (MEGT), a Board working to improve the lives of students and teachers of the gifted. Outside of the field of gifted education, she recently published a book withTeachers College Press about Co-Teaching in Preservice Teacher Education. She has previously authored or illustrated several books, chapters, and journal articles on teaching talented readers and co-teaching in pre-service education.
Dr. Fogarty taught in the College of Education at East Carolina University from 2006-2016 and at the University of Minnesota from 2016-2020. In 2006, she was recognized by the National Association for Gifted Children with the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award. She was recognized in 2010 by the same organization as an early leader in the field of gifted education. In 2013, she was recognized for teaching excellence at East Carolina University as a Board of Governors Distinguished Professor runner up, and was awarded the East Carolina Alumni Association Outstanding Teaching Award.
Liz lives in Chaska, MN with her husband, Adam, their two children, and their two dogs. She enjoys running, reading, swimming, and being with her family.
