Gifted Teacher
Petal Elementary School, Mississippi
Sherrill is a 21 year veteran teacher. She has spent the majority of her time in the 3rd and 4th grade classrooms, and she has spent the last 4 years teaching gifted studies at Petal Elementary School in Petal, MS.She has served as PLC leader for 15 years and is currently the gifted contact person for her district and the MIssissippi Department of Education. She has served on several local, state, and national committees including Missississippi's inauguarl State Superintendent Advisory Council, The South Mississippi Writing Project, as well as IC3 grant work with the National Writing Project. Sherrill became a National Board Certified Teacher in 2012, and renewed in 2022. She currenlty provides support fo candidates working to become NBCT's through the World Class Teaching Program on the campus of The University of Southern MIssissippi. She has also served as an adjunct professor of Elementary Education coursework at Misssissippi State Unviersity. Sherrill received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from The University of Southern Mississippi, her Master's Degree in Elementary Education, her Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership, and her Gifted Endorsement all from William Carey University. Sherrill and her gifted team have worked diligently to foster open lines of communication and build relationships with the general education and special education teachers across their school district to better meet the needs of the gifted students being served. When not advocating for gifted students and her fellow teachers, Sherrill enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, and working in her yard.
