Past President & Highly Capable/Gifted Coordinator
WAETAG (Washington Association of Educators of the Talented and Gifted & West Valley School District #208, Washington
Wendy is the K-12 Highly Capable/Gifted Coordinator for West Valley School District in Yakima, Washington, where she also teaches 6th and 7th grade gifted elective classes. She has been a classroom teacher for nearly 30 years, in the general classroom setting and in the area of Talented and Gifted. Wendy earned her Master’s Degree through Central Washington University, a Specialty Endorsement in Gifted Education through Whitworth University, and is National Board Certified. She has served on the executive board for Washington Association of Educators of Talented and Gifted (WAETAG) since 2014, currently as Past President, Conference Chair, Clock Hour Chair, and Partnership Co-Chair.
As a gifted youth, Wendy experienced first-hand many of the same challenges this often overlooked population of students regularly encounter. She felt these same challenges later as a parent to two very differently gifted children, and also as a teacher and coordinator for countless students. This trifecta of lenses toward gifted education fuels her desire to provide appropriate instruction, and also foster self-awareness and self-advocacy skills in the students themselves.
