Bio for Felicia A. Dixon, Ph.D.
Felicia A. Dixon is Professor of Psychology Emerita in the Department of Educational Psychology at Ball State University. She has directed the master’s degree program in educational psychology and the license/endorsement in gifted education. She received her doctorate from Purdue University and specializes in gifted education. Author of more than 40 articles and chapters, Felicia Dixon co-edited the important Handbook of Secondary Gifted Education in 2006, and its second edition (2015). Additionally, she edited the NAGC service publication, Programs and Services for Secondary Gifted Students (2008). She received the Early Scholar Award from NAGC in 2004. She has served as a member of the Board of Directors of NAGC and Chaired the Task Force on Secondary Gifted Education of NAGC, The NAGC Awards Committee, and the Advisory Board for Teaching for High Potential. She is a member of GERI, the Gifted Education Resource Institute, Advisory Board at Purdue University, and serves on the Broad Based Planning Committee for Indianapolis Public Schools as well. She has conducted program evaluations, taught all of the courses in the sequence for obtaining the license/endorsement in gifted education, and is currently consulting in gifted education nationally and internationally—most recently in Singapore at the Raffles Institution-- on topics concerning secondary gifted education. Her research interests include critical thinking, cognitive abilities, self-concept of gifted adolescents, perfectionism, empathy and values, curriculum, and differentiation of instruction for all students, and talent development using the Moon-Dixon Model.
