Asst. Professor/Director Elementary Education Northern New Mexico College, New Mexico
Native American students with gifts and talents are historically underrepresented in gifted education across the country. As research and discussions on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion take center stage in education, Native American students are routinely excluded from these conversations. Join us in identifying systemic practices/policies that make Native students invisible. Explore the necessity of relationship building to support gifted Native youth; begin those relations now with presenters and NAGC colleagues in this session.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will recognize the systemic nature of the educational barriers faced by Native students with gifts and talents.
Participants will develop an understanding of the need for meaningful relationship building for themselves, their students and their communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in community with presenters and colleagues and ask difficult questions.
