Most teacher education preparation programs spend little to no time properly educating their preservice teacher candidates about working with advanced learners. Is there any hope these teachers will be prepared to work with gifted students? We compare common evaluation tools used with pre-service student teachers to the NAGC Teacher Preparation standards to answer this important question.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify aspects of pre-service teacher preparation evaluation tools that address/mention/relate to gifted and/or high-ability learners
  • Recognize that all pre-service teachers have the potential to meet the needs of gifted and high-ability students
  • Examine ways that you can use the NAGC Teacher Preparation standards to work with pre-service and early career student teachers to improve their practice
