The intellectual abilities and creative talents of minority students are often overlooked or ignored when they do not align with typical characteristics of giftedness. This session focuses on the role of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and the Divine Nine in creating and sponsoring talent development programs that encourage and support the educational and cultural advancement of gifted minority students.
Learning Objectives:
The participants will examine the missions of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their talent development programs that nurture the advanced intellectual and creative abilities of minority students.
The participants will examine the mission of the Divine Nine organizations and explore how their mentorship programs support and encourage the academic, cultural, and social-emotional advancement of minority students.
The participants will examine the overall impact that HBCUs and the Divine Nine have had and continue to have on the educational and cultural advancement of minority students.
