Professor of Art Education Western Kentucky University, Kentucky
This session shares the benefits of an art studio collaboration between students at the Experimental Art School in Cuba and students in the United States using "Ecuador," a mural by Ecuadorian artist, GuayasamÃn. This collaboration allowed students to explore their own identities and created a safe space to celebrate individual and collective identities as well as address social inequalities.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the cultural and artistic merit and heroism of Oswaldo Guayasamin
Describe compassion for humanity with visual call-and-response works
Demonstrate strategies to overcome limitations of identity and social injustice
