Once students leave elementary school, gifted services often consist solely of advanced or accelerated courses. How can we also address identity, social-emotional needs, and personal goals during these vulnerable secondary years? Answer: A course that explores their unique talents while developing inter/intrapersonal skills, self-discovery, and self-advocacy through the use of Project Based Learning, Socratic Seminars, and book studies.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will examine a variety of options for incorporating this course in whole or part into secondary school schedules.
  • Attendees will align their current model of service to the 2019 NAGC Gifted Programming Standards, specifically in regards to self-understanding, awareness of needs, personal competence, and program comprehensiveness.
  • Attendees will select from tools and resources provided by the speakers and crowdsourced during the session to design and implement curriculum.
