In 2010, one K-8 school opened as a free public gifted education school without entrance requirements. The traditional programs in the area protested, asking how it could call itself a gifted program without test score entry. Over the last thirteen years, the school has won state recognition for excellence and for significant academic growth with gifted students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will consider how advocacy for the needs of gifted students requires wording that meets the needs of each unique community.
  • Attendees will consider the best practices of this school and how these are successful within the community.
  • Attendees will reflect on a series of questions about their own philosophies and will identify areas where innovation would benefit students.
