Pamela (Pam) Shaw is President-Elect and Policy and Advocacy Committee Co-Chair of the Illinois Association for Gifted Children, Board Member and Far North Suburban Coordinator of the Chicago Gifted Community Center, and Vice President of the Board of Education for Fremont School District 79 in Mundelein, Illinois. A music teacher by training, Pam received her Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Learning about and advocating for her two twice-exceptional children (now teen and young adult) inspired her to pursue a Master of Education in Special Education with an emphasis in Gifted Education from the University of Missouri via their fully-online program, which she received in December 2020 in the midst of the pandemic.
Pam is the K-12 Course Review Manager at Quality Matters (QM), the global organization leading quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments. Prior to coming to QM, she taught fully online, asynchronous music appreciation and middle school science courses for Illinois Virtual School for 9 years. Quality Matters, along with the Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance (VLLA) and the Digital Learning Collaborative (DLC), provides joint oversight of the National Standards for Quality Online Learning (NSQ), previously updated and maintained by the International Association for K-12 Online Learning (iNACOL). The purpose of the NSQ is to provide the K-12 online and blended learning community with an updated set of openly licensed standards to help evaluate and improve online courses, online teaching, and online programs.
