Learning for ALL: Using an MTSS Framework to Promote Equitable Practices in Gifted Education (Poster 44)

MTSS is designed to allow schools to provide targeted instruction to students, but many MTSS frameworks do not consider the needs of gifted students. The Gifted/MTSS Pilot Project is facilitating systemic integration for equitable learning opportunities that include high-ability learners. Presenters share the conceptual foundations, the pilot system, and reflections and findings from the first year of the project.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will consider ways MTSS can include a focus on high-ability learners and how the systems promote equitable access to appropriate instruction and supports.
  • Participants will discuss professional learning and MTSS models that have been effective in rural districts -- particularly those without a certified gifted teacher.
  • Participants will review participant perceptions about the efficacy of the MTSS pilot and teaching gifted students.
