Opportunities prior to identification are important for talent recognition. What has been effectively implemented to ensure that students’ talents and gifts are noticed? Discover resources and models for talent scouting and discuss the effectiveness of supported programs for identifying talent, particularly for students who are traditionally underrepresented in gifted programs.

Participants will be able to explain the need for talent scouting programs, including why these programs are important for students from underrepresented populations.
Participants will be able to cite common programs and features of said programs that have been effective in providing access and opportunity prior to identification.
Participants will be able to explain the evidence for talent scouting and its implications for increasing diversity and achievement in gifted programs.
