This Javits-sponsored project was designed to expand identification and services for gifted and talented students in Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). Based on the rich, distinct history of Detroit, DPSCD’s demographics and geopolitical factors informed all program decisions. This session reviews gifted plan decision-making and professional development created to provide tailored professional development as the District expands MTSS.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize the importance of local norming in addressing equitable identification.
Understand the specifics of what is working around the country in equitable identification within large, urban districts.
Examine the newly created identification practices being implemented in a large, urban district within a Javits grant partnership.
