A tremendous amount of attention has been spent addressing achievement and opportunity gaps in schools. Equally as important is closing the excellence gap for high-performing students. Increasing the performance of academically-advanced students is a necessity to increased equity. This session provides educators with practical research-based strategies to use in developing abilities and talents through supportive, challenging learning experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the excellence gap that exists among high-performing, academically advanced students.
  • Identify classroom strategies using the Excellence Gap Intervention Model (EGIM) action planning steps.
  • Understand the role of intervention in academic talent development and brainstorm ways to incorporate activities to strengthen academic achievement in students with advanced learning needs.
